FIREFIGHTERS had to use a digger to tackle a blaze after a pile of rubbish was set on fire on open ground in Prescot.
Crews were called to land near Hall Lane and Manchester Road just after 6pm last Friday. A large quantity of timber was alight and the digger and hose reels were used to put out the deep seated fire.
Firefighters remained at the scene until 11am the next morning.
