ALL births are special, but a series of numbers made Jack Dylan Thomas’ arrival that little bit more remarkable.

Jack was born by emergency caesarian section on January 10, at 10.01pm, weighing 10lbs 01 ounce.

Parents Dan and Joanne – as well as midwives and surgical staff at Whiston Hospital – noticed the sets of numbers were the same.

The couple’s first child, Jack was 15 days overdue, having been expected on Boxing Day last year.

Joanne, 31, and Dan, 30, have now taken Jack from hospital to their home in Drayton Crescent, Blackbrook.

Joanne said: “It didn’t occur to me straight away, as I was a bit too busy being in labour! When Dan mentioned it I thought it was a bit weird.

“It’ll always be easy to remember exactly when he was born and what he weighed!

“Don’t know how unusual it is, but it must be millions to one that the baby’s birth date, time and weight all match.”

Dan, a team leader at Sony Computer Entertainment, said: “It was me that first noticed the string of numbers. The date – 10/01 – then the time 10.01pm.

“He was quite a big baby and they were guessing his weight and I said it would be funny if he was 10lb one – and then he was!”

He added: “So, it looks as though 1,001 is his lucky number!”

Dan and Joanne, who is on maternity leave from her position in sales, have been together since meeting at college in Preston.

Dan said: “Jack’s doing fine, he’s eating a lot as he’s so big.

“The family are delighted with him – they keep asking if we’re putting £1,001 in his bank account but I am saying it’ll be more like £10.01.” Tina Bogle, interim head of midwifery at Whiston Hospital, said: “This is an amazing story. It is very special for Jack and his family and I am sure it will be a story he enjoys hearing when he gets older.

“The trust would like to offer our congratulations to the family and of course baby Jack.”
