NGF Europe based in Lea Green was named St Helens Chamber Excellence in Business winner.

Last year the company was given the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in recognition for their design and manufacture of small filament diameter glass cords.

Alistair Poole the company’s MD said: “To be part of the community is a massive thing for NGF.

“Manufacturing is going through a recession so it’s really good to be successful in St Helens particularly when good news is scarce.

“We have spent years as a global business and are a world leader in our field.

“And we do it from St Helens.

“There are good transport links and there has been an investment in the town centre to create extra jobs.”

Kath Boullen who is the chief executive of the chamber said: “We like to see local businesses doing really well and recruiting staff.

“We do have a lot of good businesses in St Helens.”

The other nominees were A180 Darts which supplies specialist equipment to some of the world’s leading players and ATG Bollards which had been named Manufacturing Company of the Year 2014 by the Insider Business Awards.
