MARK Worthington proved to be a popular winner of the Portico Nurseries Young Community Star Award.

The youngster leads an incredibly active lifestyle and is heavily involved with Dwarf Sport Association.

A member of the St James Scout Troop last year he took part in the Equinox Challenge in Delamere Forest.

He is a keen swimmer, BMX rider and takes part in canoeing.

He also skis each month at Rossendale and attends weekly Karate lessons.

Mark has been described as an “all rounder” and plays an active part in community events.

When asked what he likes about the Dwarf Sports Association he said: “I really like my sport. It’s really good and I meet all my friends there. I am also looking forward to taking up the discus.”

Speaking to the Star afterwards he said: “I am very proud of myself and didn’t expect it at all.”

Craig Jackson the director of Portico Nurseries which sponsored the award said: “I am very proud of Mark. He is such a strong character. And he should be very proud of himself as well.

“It’s incredible to see the amount of things that he has achieved.”
