AN ARMED robber threatened staff at a McDonalds restaurant with a knife before escaping with a quantity of cash.

Police are appealing for information in tracing the crook who was wearing a balaclava and struck at the takeaway on St Helens Linkway at around 11.15pm on Sunday (August 17).

None of the staff were hurt but they were left shaken by the incident.

Detective Constable Steven O’Neill said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the members of staff and customers in the restaurant at the time and appeal to anyone who may know his identify to come forward and tell police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Much has been made of extolling the benefits of a "night time" economy as part of the plans for re-vamping the town centre. However, with a knife wielding thug terrorising McDonalds staff and pensioners being attacked on their way home from a dance, there is an awful lot of work to be done to assure people their night out won't end in tears and a visit to the A&E Department.
