A CRASH involving four cars that led to road closures this afternoon did not result in any serious injuries, say police.

The collision happened at Marshalls Cross Road at around 4.15pm.

It is believed four vehicles were involved, leading to closures at the junction with Sherdley Road and Eaves Lane.

The road reopened shortly after 6pm, according to a police spokesman.

Star readers say an air ambulance landed in Sherdley Park but no casualties had to be taken from the scene.

According to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, the two occupiers of the first car, a man aged 64 and a woman aged 57, were out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters gave the woman oxygen. Both were taken to Whiston Hospital for a precautionary check.

A 53-year-old man, who was in the second vehicle, was assessed by a paramedic and did not require hospital treatment.

A man, woman and two boys, who were in the third car, did not require hospital nor did a 22-year-old woman in a fourth car.

Firefighters were at the scene for around 40 minutes.

So no serious injuries or deaths, air ambulance not needed and fire brigade only there for 40 minutes... so why was it closed for one and three quarter hours ?
