TOWN centre nightclub the Imperial Bar will get a makeover, after permission was granted to build a new roof terrace and bar.
The building on Ormskirk Street is split into three different units, including jewellers Burns and Carl Christopher.
Under the plans, Burns will be extended on the ground floor.
The work, which will also see the provision of a terrace serving food and drinks and open throughout the week, is due to start.
There will also be an outdoor smoking area, a staff room, toilets and an extra office.
The renovation is due to be completed by the end of the year and is expected to create around 15 new jobs.
In a boost to the local economy, owner Ian Pitts will employ St Helens tradesmen and only use suppliers from the town.
The plans were passed as they were said to improve the “economic, social and environmental conditions of the area”.
