WHEN mother-of-three Donna Tickle was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29 in February it was a massive shock.
But the housewife has bounced back and is determined to battle against the disease and raise money for Jo’s Trust, the cervical cancer charity.
Donna, from Newton-le-Willows, had initally been given the all-clear after a smear test last November. But around February she felt something wasn’t right and a biopsy at St Helens Hospital revealed she had cervical cancer.
She is now waiting to undergo a hysterectomy at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Now her partner and husband-to-be Nick Reardon has revealed how Donna, who has children aged nine, five and nine months, bravely reacted to the news.
“It happened so fast it was like a bombshell,” said Nick, a mechanical engineer.
“But instead of letting things get her down she has decided to try to do something positive to raise awareness of this disease and a bit of money for Jo’s Trust.”
Donna has organised a charity fun day for Easter Monday, April 21 at Newton-le-Willows Cricket Club and has had some much appreciated generous support.
In six weeks’ time Donna and Nick are getting married but her illness means they have had to cancel a planned and paid for holiday in Tunisia.
“We’ll lose £1,000 through cancelling but that doesn’t matter; what does matter is Donna’s health,” added Nick.
The Easter Monday fun day will run from noon to 4pm and attractions include the chance to win a pair of Saints tickets, £50 Tesco vouchers, and Tiny Sailor tattoos from Earlestown will donate all the proceeds from skin art sessions to Jo’s Trust.
