ONE of Britain’s most promising young jockeys has been appointed ambassador for Haydock and Aintree racecourses.

Sam Twiston-Davies will promote the two Merseyside Jockey Club racecourses in the north-west, and specifically Aintree for the 2014 Crabbie's Grand National.

National Hunt jockey Sam Twiston-Davies is the son of champion trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, who has guided over 1,000 winners under National Hunt rules, including Grand National victors Earth Summit and Bindaree.

Sam made his debut over The Grand National fences as a 17 year-old when he rode Hello Bud in 2010. As ambassador, starting today (Thursday, March 6) Sam will write a monthly blog for the Aintree Insider (www.aintree.co.uk) and will be the jockey media representative for the region.

Sam said: "I am honoured to become an ambassador for Aintree, Haydock Park and Carlisle Racecourses, and specifically for The Crabbie’s Grand National.

“The Jockey Club is an exceptional organisation which has fantastic values and has been at the heart of British racing for more than 260 years.

“So, it is an honour and a privilege that I have been offered this position and I look forward to working with the team.”

The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival takes place at Aintree from April 3 -5 with the Saturday finale being the 167th Grand National steeple chase. The first Grand National was staged 175 years ago.

John Baker, Aintree and North West Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses said: “Sam is a fantastic young national hunt jockey with a great future in the sport. He is also a great guy with a family who have a long and respected history in our sport. So, it was an easy choice for us and we are delighted he has accepted.”
