AN investigation has been launched after a witness reported seeing a woman punched in the face in an early morning assault.

The incident is believed to have happened on Ashurst Drive in Blackbrook at 8.25am on Tuesday (February 11). A man was apparently seen launching the attack.

A police spokesman said the offender is described as tall, thin and believed to have spoken with a Liverpool accent.

It is the third incident in as many weeks in the area after a 43-year-old woman was attacked in an alleyway on Ashurst Drive and a man was charged with robbery Sam’s Wines on Blackbrook Road.

The incidents are not believed to be connected.

Anyone with information about the latest incident is asked to call St Helens police via the police non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
