A MAN was arrested when police raided a cannabis farm in a flat above a chip shop and seized plants and equipment with a potential value of well over £600,000.

More than 600 plants and associated cultivating equipment were discovered by officers who arrived this morning with a warrant to search a flat above a takeaway and one man was arrested at the scene in Greenfield Road, Dentons Green.

The manager at the Tasty Corner fish and chip shop told the Star: “Police were here when I arrived at work at 10am. I was a bit shocked. It is nothing to do with the business at all, we are open as normal. The flat was rented out to somebody.”

A Merseyside police spokesman described the seizure as “quite a substantial haul” from a medium sized farm with plants, lighting and irrigation equipment being found in the three room flat and loft.

Police said the person arrested was not connected with the takeaway.

“There were 600-plus plants and our dismantling team was there until 1pm. A fully mature cannabis plant can produce £1,000 worth of drugs so this is quite a substantial haul,” he explained.
