As well as looking for new members union representatives were also highlighting their campaign for a pay deal for local government workers who according to their figures have had an 18 per cent cut in wages since 2011 due to a three year pay freeze.

With 1.3 members nationally and a local branch of more than 4,000 UNISON represents full-time and part-time staff who work in the public sector.
