Man dies after being struck by train

THERE were major rail delays this afternoon after a man was struck by a train between Earlestown and Warrington Bank Quay.
Emergency services were called at 12.35pm but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A North West Ambulance spokesman confirmed the man was middle-aged and thought to be around 50-years-old.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Warrington Bank Quay station on Friday after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 12.35pm and was also attended by Cheshire Constabulary officers.
“Medics from the North West Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
“We are currently working to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.”
The line between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Bank Quay was blocked after the incident involving the 9.43am Virgin train travelling from Euston to Glasgow.
The line was handed back to Network Rail at 1.12pm and services are now thought to have resumed as normal.
