BRAVE Liam Burbridge dedicated his Saints Courage Award to his family, who have helped through the hardest times in his life.

The 20-year-old had a motorcycle accident on February 12 this year and subsequently had 13 operations.

He needed his left leg amputating. But his loved ones say he has ‘fought like no other’ and never moans.

He has relished the role of becoming a father.

He said: “When something like this happens, it is really hard to adapt to life – but I’m very lucky I have a strong family and great friends to support me. That is what you need in the bad times – you need someone to push you through it.

“I have just become a father and it feels great.”

Dave Hutchinson, head of sales at St Helens Rugby League Club, which sponsored the awards, said: “Tonight has been superb – and is a great example of the people who are out there in St Helens.

“I’m not from St Helens but I’m very proud to work here.

“I often hear the glass half full attitude of some people and wonder why when there a lot of great things going on.”
