STREET dance sensation Paisley Kerswell might be just eight years old – but she turned in a stunning display at this year’s UDO World Street Dance Championships spinning to second place in the under-10s category.

The intense championship held at the Glasgow SECC Arena, draws in dancers and dance crews from across the globe every year, sparking fierce competition as they strive to become UDO street dance champions.

Paisley, or ‘Goldie-Lox’ as she is known in the dance world, was chosen to compete in the highly coveted competition when she impressed judges in the British Championships in Wales earlier this year.

She competed in the advanced category for her age group and grabbed first place, despite competition from dancers up to two years older than herself.

After a gruelling weekend in which she battled it out in a number of segments for various street styles, Paisley ran rings around many of her 12-year-old rivals.

Shewas eventually able to swoop in for her final victory of second place in the Street Dance Freestyle Worlds under-10s.

She was granted a monumental trophy and a generous cash prize.

According to her family, Paisley, from Eccleston, was ‘dancing’ even before she could properly walk.

Unlike most girls her age, however, she has never been interested in the traditional tap and ballet route and decided instead that street dance would be more her cup of tea.

Incredibly, she is self-taught, with her practice space being the family living-room.

Her speciality is ‘popping’, a street dance style technique which involves contracting and relaxing muscles in the body quickly to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body.

She looks to music channels and videos for guidance and inspiration.

Young Paisley has garnered an impressive collection of 14 trophies and five medals in various street dance competitions over the past eight months alone.

She was even featured on the Summer Ball Festival promo video from Street Sounds, the record label run by music mogul Morgan Khan, specialising in dance and hip-hop.

She is the only solo act to have gained a place in the final of the Warrington’s Got Talent competition due to take place on September 28, which she is now preparing for along with spending time with her Manchester dance crew, The Den.
