RAINFORD HIGH students took a trip to the Belgian town of Ypres last year to further their knowledge of the First World War.
During the October half-term a group of Year 10 and 11 students spent time in the historic town, which was destroyed by the German army during the conflict which raged from 1914 to 1918.
The staff who accompanied the 57 students had arranged for a wreath to be placed at the Menin Gate during the daily ceremony.
Stuart Harrison and Lauren Hughes, from Year 11 and 10 respectively, carried the wreath to the gate during the emotional service.
The trip was a huge success and a first for the history department at Rainford High, who hope to return to the town this year.
