Susanna comes through surgery in the US
5:32pm Wednesday 31st October 2012 in News By Stephen Mather, Senior reporter
DAYS after undergoing pioneering surgery in the US, little Susanna Petersburska is making great progress.
The five-year-old from Eccleston, suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has undergone a procedure to help her walk unaided. It involved cutting some of the nerve fibres from the muscles to the spinal cord.
Susanna, who is in St Louis, Missouri with big sister Maja, mum Monika and dad Andrzej, is already on the road to recovery.
This has been a remarkable journey for the family, who faced a mammoth task to raise the £60,000 needed to fund the procedure and trip.
But thanks to the generosity of Star readers and restaurant chain Frankie and Benny’s, who staged a nationwide fundraising event over one weekend, the cash target was smashed.
In a letter written to the Star just before she left for America, decorated with a flower and love heart, Susanna wrote: “I would like to thank all the people for help raised money for me and for your support. You are great. I love you.”
These pictures show her after surgery, undergoing treatment in hospital.
