ZOO bar is ready for some rock magic when Liverpool band Wizards of Twiddly pay a visit on Friday (September 9).

Described by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Steve Davis as ‘the best band ever to come out of Liverpool’, Wizards of Twiddly formed in 1988 and are described as ‘creating wildly ambitious music from a vast and colourful palette with large chunks of humour and theatricality’.

Describing themselves as having ‘stuck out like a sore thumb’ in the Liverpool music scene, they are difficult to categorise.

Although the mainstream music media have not always taken notice, they have enjoyed huge success and many memorable career milestones.

Past highlights include the production of albums Independent Legs and Manmade Self. They have also appeared on albums from well known names such as The Coral and the Super Furry Animals.

In the mid-90s the band embarked on a lengthy collaboration with the legendary Kevin Ayers. And in 2000 the release of the live recording Turn the Lights Down – Live in London 1995 showcased the band accompanying Kevin as he performed some of his greatest tunes.

More recently they have produced the album People With Purpose on their own record label Fracture for Pleasure, for which they have received rave reviews.

Steven Reid from seaoftranquility.org said: ‘People With Purpose is a manic jaunt through blaring horns, enigmatic vocals and frenzied bursts of guitar, which is all tied together with the deepest rhythmic grooves you could hope for. Mad, bad and dangerously addictive’.

Doors open at 8pm, with the gig set for a 9pm start.
