St Helens Festival timetable

Hot on the heels of the new £25-million Saints Stadium announcement, Wilkin will be in the Sports Quarter running mini rugby league tournaments.

A colourful musical parade will provide a stylish launch to the event.

Around 300 participants including artists, musicians, performers, local groups and schools will be taking part in the showstopping parade. Mayor of St Helens Cllr Sheila Seddon will then open the event in the park at noon.

As usual, youngsters will be well catered for with a Children's World of Entertainment, including: a Blackpool-style beach and donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face painting, Circus Skills Workshop, Stormy Stan the Lifeboat and paddle boats.

There will be non-stop local and international talent on the Music Pavilion stage this year too. Highlights include local bands The Loungs, The Differents, Ghengis Grimes, Mark Wilson, The Monte Cristo Blondes, Krazy 88 and the St Helens Music Academy.

And for culture vultures there will be a special creative quarter - the artistic hub of the Festival. There'll be a variety of stiltwalkers including martians, the fox trotters and nautical Nancy.

Fantastic living statues (figureheads on plinths) will jump out when you least expect it, and don't miss the fire-eaters, jugglers and unicyclists.

And of course your very own St Helens Star will be presenting the Star Mother and Baby plus Kool Kids.
