Hi folks, Simon T here once again with everything that's happening in the local area live music wise for this week.
Once again I had a trip around a couple of local venues last Saturday to catch some live music and it was another good night for live music in the town.
First up it was off to see local indie stalwarts Titors Insignia at the Cricketers Arms on Peter street. The Cricketers is another venue that has opened its doors to live music in the town and another good atmosphere in a small venue.
As per usual Titors Insignia didn't disappoint the crowd they had attracted to the Cricketers, playing material from their own catalogue and a few well chosen covers. Stu Oggy and the lads have really come on since the days of The Heath and really good to hear their original material they have already recorded and released on the two albums.
Nice version of "Dakota" by The Stereophonics to boot!
From the Cricketers it was a walk across the road to a venue that is really establishing itself on the local live music scene, The Phoenix Inn. As well as winning all sorts of awards for its real ale, the Phoenix have been supporting live music with gigs on every Saturday for quite a while now, and if you like your live music and real ale it’s a venue well worth visiting. Last Saturday it was the turn of Polkerdice, a cracking young band playing material from The Foo Fighters, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin et al. The venue itself was very busy and the crowd gave these guys a great reception and a good time was had by all!!!
