THE discovery of a stricken swan with a hook and line stuck in its beak has led to calls for anglers to clean up after themselves.

Star reader, Carl Nolan, was walking through Sutton Mill Dam when he spotted the injured bird.

He said: "Me and the kids were feeding the ducks when we saw it.

"It can't eat and doesn't look well at all.

"The place is really popular with fishermen, so I would just urge them not to leave things like this hanging around.

"I phoned the RSPCA straight away, but I think it's been in this condition for at least three days."

Carl (37) immediately phoned the RSPCA, but initial attempts on Tuesday (May 29) to rescue the injured bird were unsuccessful.

Officers plan to make renewed attempts to capture it the following day.
