THIS picture published three weeks ago sparked a flurry of responses from Coffey Time readers.
The photo was actually captioned “Old property adjoining Co-Operative Stores, Baldwin Street”.
Pat Wilson was nearly there, writing: “I think it may be Cotham Street. I remember shops there, one of them sold flour. The Co-Op later was in the store of the old building which is now Wilkies."
Sid Fowler, 87, reckons this picture is about 80 years old, and maybe the photographer was stood in the door of The Sefton.
He said: "On the left is the old Co-Op. Next to it was a shop nicknamed the ‘Weighing Machine’.
"It sold itching powder and all sorts of games and goodies that attracted the young, plus items for babies.
He can’t recall what the next shop was, but next is the door with the adjacent plaques that was Dr Fox’s Surgery.
