Mary O’Shaughnessy has contacted me with some interesting facts.

She writes: “I read your article about the Red Lion in Sutton. In the 1901 census my great grandparents James Quinn and Mary Gagan were living at the Nancy Hotel in Pocket Nook with their family. In the 1911 census they had moved to Burnley.

“I believe the Nancy closed on July 15, 1907. I remember their daughter Mary, my grandmother, telling me about the Nancy Hotel where she lived during that time. I vaguely remember a photograph in the local paper years ago. I would love to have a copy if you or any of your readers know if there are any, also any stories about the Nancy.

“The article about Gary Carr was interesting. Ann Quinn who married Henry Carr was sister to my great grandfather James Quinn who lived at the Nancy, so we share the same great, great, grandfather Michael Quinn. I don’t know how much information Gary has about the Quinn family but I could send the information I have. I also have photograph of Ann and Henry. They had 10 children, one of them must be Gary’s grandfather. Hope this is helpful to Gary.”
