Butch Gilbart writes: “Last month school children from Eaves Lane and Sherdley Primary Schools cleaned up and planted poppy seeds on the graves of the First World War soldiers at St Nicholas’ Church on New Street.

"In this centenary year of The Great War let St Helens be the first town in the country to clean up and plant poppies on all the graves of First World War soldiers. We have the chance to set a precedent here, let’s not waste it.

"It does not take much for anyone who lives near a church with a graveyard to go and identify the last resting place of these young lads. It’s the least we can do.”
