So many people contacted me following the publication of the photo of the number 9 bus near Rainhill Hospital, that I’m sure you would like to see the same spot in an older photo, sent to me by Trolley Bus enthusiast, Geoff Sandford.
Geoff tells us: “The bus at Rainhill Hospital gates is heading towards St Helens, so the gates are on the left of the photo out of view. The nearest I can get to that image from my photo collection is from a different angle looking toward St Helens.
"The trolley buses are also on service 9 and the one on the left is in the same location as the one of the AEC motor bus published on February 6, so the shops are behind the trolley.
“Service 9 was a Saturday service from St Helens via Rainhill to Prescot where vehicles turned and returned the same route. It was mainly to cater for visitors to Rainhill and Whiston hospitals. The motor bus view in the paper was taken after the trolley buses had gone.”
