Tips on beating the January blues
Now that the jolly holidays and festive fun of Christmas time have come to an end, the dark and wet days of January yet to come can seem depressing and daunting for even the most chipper of people.
So how do we flip sorrow into sunshine?
- Continue spending time with family and friends-
Instead of locking yourself in your bedroom and disappearing into your duvet, make plans with friends (e.g., going to a cinema) or start a new series/ film with your family in the comfort of your home.
- Get your eating back on track-
over the Christmas holiday chocolate and candy canes will have been regular visitor of your diet, however, now is the time to eat the greens that will help you thrive throughout the rest of the year.
- Restore sleep patterns-
after a chaotic month get back into a regular sleeping routine again wether that means going to bed early or taking your eyes off your phone 30 minutes before sleep. Consistency is key.
- Get moving more-
exercise promotes feel-good endorphins which boots our mood (e.g., go for a hike or do some online exercise at home).
Maintaining your mental and physical health is important all year round and the key to making it through the January blues is consistency and positivity.
Enjoy the slower pace at the beginning of the year and don't forget – spring is just around the corner!
