A DAD has launched a business devoted to his favourite holiday snack that he could not get his hands on back home.

After returning home from a holiday in Dubai, Larry Lomotey said he searched in vain for the fresh Acai bowls that had quickly become a favourite treat.

With limited businesses offering the sweet and healthy treat, Larry saw a perfect opportunity to launch the 'Acai Hut' out of a building that his bricklaying firm had recently completed in Atherton.

With the aim of offering customers a healthy snack option, the Acai Hut provides a variety of fresh acai bowls; which are smoothie and sorbet-style bowls containing the sweet Brazilian acai berry.

The bowls can be layered with a wide variety of fresh toppings, frozen fruit, and sweet or savoury extras.

The Acai Hut also provides fresh smoothies, premium coffees, and healthy snacks - and had queues out of the door for its "incredible opening weekend" on Saturday, April 20.

Speaking about the business, dad-of-one Larry, said: "It's taken nearly a year to finish the shop, so we have had a lot of people walking past and asking what we're about.

"I hadn't even done any real advertising before opening so I was very nervous, thinking no one would come, but in the end there were big queues out of the door.

"We have only been open for two weekends so far, as I also work full time as a bricklayer, but the business has gone much better than I expected.

"People seem to be loving it and we have even had some Leigh Leopards players in who said they have been looking for a place like this.

"There are some really nice places in Atherton now too so I'm happy to be here and adding to the high street."

With long term plans to offer further food options and open throughout the week, Acai Hut can be found on Market Street in Atherton on Saturdays and Sundays.
