IT is regrettable that due to high levels of emergency attendances and whilst awaiting treatment, Mr Fairclough-Speed’s father (Star, January 16: 'A&E was dreadful') was temporarily placed in the corridor during a particularly busy period in the department.
As with all other hospitals across the country, the Trust has experienced a significant increase in demand for its services.
Whiston Hospital has the highest number of A&E attendances in the region, seeing and treating more than 115,000 patients a year.
Patient safety is always our priority. At all times we ensure that nursing and medical staff maintain the highest levels of safe care during this unprecedented level of activity.
Our staff are responding to this increased pressure with exceptional professionalism and are working incredibly hard throughout the hospital to manage this demand. We’re extremely grateful for their efforts.
