A FAMILY-RUN bar and bistro is the latest addition to the growing town centre in Prescot.

Taking over the former Kitchen 54 premises on Eccleston Street, Daniel McCann and Daniel Maguire have been working hard to refurbish the unit in recent months and showcase their vision for the bar.

After a couple of delays, 'The Tempest' is ready for its opening night tonight (Saturday, December 16).

With Prescot benefitting from Heritage Action Zone funding and the opening of the Shakespeare North Playhouse in recent years, this has encouraged a variety of venues to launch in the town centre, such as Pinion restaurant, Eden Bar & Garden, and Maturo steakhouse.

The collection of bars and restaurants has increasingly attracted people from St Helens and surrounding areas like Rainhill and Whiston to Prescot, and the two Daniels hope this custom can continue with the Tempest.

Daniel McCann said: "We've been doing up the bar right up until the opening night and have had quite a lot of support from local people, who seem quite excited to see the new bar.

"We're concentrating on the bar for the opening weekend, and then will launch our small plates and breakfast menu from Monday. There aren't too many places offering breakfasts around here so hopefully we can take over this scene."

Although this is the pair's first bar together, Daniel and Daniel do own several successful businesses that include cafes, car washes, and hairdressers, and they aim to use what they have learned in business to make the Tempest a lasting success in Prescot.
