TRAINS in St Helens have been hit by cancellations due to the effects of yesterday's stormy weather.
Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western are being disrupted due to the severe weather, with Network Rail working on faults in the area.
This is affecting trains on the line which takes in St Helens Central, Thatto Heath, Eccleston Park, Prescot and Garswood stations.
This follows on from disruption yesterday as an object was caught in the overhead wires affecting services in the area.
Train operator Northern said this morning: "Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western are currently being disrupted (in both directions) due to severe weather yesterday.
"Network Rail engineers are working to rectify the faults in the area, however this is taking additional time to resolve and therefore trains are unable to run in either direction."
Meanwhile, there have also been cancellations on the line including services at St Helens Junction, Lea Green, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Rainhill and Whiston as services across the Northern network are disrupted today.

The disruption comes as a new timetable is introduced across the north of England today following recent ASLEF strike action.
Most Northern services are unaffected by the timetable change from Sunday, but there will be a slight re-timing of some services.
