RAIL services were disrupted at Newton-le-Willows station this morning after police attended a report of a "suspicious item" on a train.
Northern said there was disruption of services at the Mill Lane station due to police "dealing with an incident".
British Transport Police were made aware of the incident.
A spokesperson said officers attended at around 9.15am and an investigation found the item was a bag of clothes and declared "non-suspicious".

The disruption to services has since ended.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Newton-le-Willows station shortly after 9.15am this morning following a report of a suspicious item on a train.
"Upon investigation the item was found to be a bag of clothes which was declared non-suspicious."
✅Disruption caused by the police dealing with an incident at Newton-Le-Willows has now ended. Services are no longer affected by this problem.
