A 74-YEAR-OLD woman has died following a crash in Newton-le-Willows today.

It was reported that a Land Rover Freelander had been involved in a collision with another vehicle at the junction of Church Street and Park Road North at around 11.30am on Wednesday,  September 20.

The 74-year-old woman, who was driving the Land Rover Freelander, was taken to hospital in a serious condition but died a short time later.

There were no other reported injuries.

In a statement, police said: "Her family have been made aware and are being supported by police officers and we would ask for their privacy to be respected at this time."

Sergeant Simon Duffy, from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the lady who died following this collision.

"We are investigating the circumstances of this incident and HM Coroner will be made aware.

“If anyone saw the incident, I would be grateful if they could give my team a call.

“Similarly, I would urge any residents who have any CCTV or doorbell footage at their properties on the junction to check and see if it has captured the build up to this incident. Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear, could assist us in our investigation.”
