A MAN has been charged after a serious incident at a residential property resulted in a five-hour stand off with police.

As reported by the Star, police cordoned off an area of Gaskell Street yesterday morning (Thursday, April 20), following a disturbance and a concern for safety at a residential address.

Numerous police vehicles were on the scene to deal with the incident, which began at around 8am, and it also involved the fire and rescue service.

Following a five-hour stand off, a 44-year-old man was arrested by officers at around 1.20pm in the afternoon, in relation to public order offences.

Police have now confirmed that David Young, 44, of Gaskell Street, has been charged with affray.

He has also been charged with making threats to kill, using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear and abstracting electricity without authority.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court on Saturday, April 22.
