A POPULAR food and drink market is planning to reopen after a three-month temporary closure.

Opening up on Brook Street, the highly-anticipated Imperial Food and Drink Quarter launched as a vibrant new venue in late October, and provided the town centre and night-time economy with a much-needed boost.

Ran by local entrepreneur Ian Pitts, who owns multiple town centre businesses such as Imperial nightclub, Cork and Dough pizza restaurant and the Citadel Theatre, Imperial Quarter offers a city centre style venue that tries to keep people spending money in St Helens.

With a wide selection of independent food stalls to try, which previously included burgers and burritos, hot dogs and halloumi, and pizza and curries, there is also a host of beers, wines, and cocktails on offer.

The venue was described as a "game changer" by the leader of St Helens Council David Baines ahead of its launch in October, and has indoor, outdoor and balcony seating available.

It also frequently provided live entertainment to ensure a lively atmosphere over the weekend.

Following a three-month temporary closure after the new year, the popular venue is planning to reopen over the Bank Holiday weekend, on Friday, April 28.

Speaking previously to the Star, Mr Pitts said: "It's been a tough time for businesses over the past few years, and independents have really struggled.

"That's why we need the support from local people to come and spend their money here so we can keep growing and developing.

"Ultimately, my aim is to provide investment and give people a reason to stay in the town; where they can come for a drink or something to eat and go on to support other local venues."
