PLANS to convert a former pub into commercial premises with an apartment above have been withdrawn.

The Star reported in December after proposals were sent to the council’s planning department regarding the vacant former Furnace Mans Arms on Pocket Nook Street.

In a design and access statement by planning agents, Taurus Design Services, it said: “No. 49 is an existing first-floor apartment that will remain as such as part of this proposal.

“The remainder of the property is a former licensed premises with landlord accommodation on the first floor both of which have been vacant for some time”.

Plans added: “It is proposed to split the ground floor pub into two commercial units (Use Class E) whilst changing the first-floor landlord’s flat into a residential apartment with its own separate entrance".

The application did not outline specific details of the proposed shop premises for the site.

It stated: "The scale of the property is in keeping with that of the previous business premises and surrounding area.

“The existing character of the area has been maintained and has not been jeopardised by the extent of our proposals”.

It is said “the appearance will remain relatively unchanged” by the works.

Plans withdrawn

A decision notice on the council website has confirmed the plans have been withdrawn.

A reason for the withdrawal has not been cited.

A correspondence to the applicant stated: "Further to your recent correspondence, I can confirm that the above application has now been withdrawn.

"If you intend to resubmit the application, I suggest that you first speak to the case officer to discuss amendments or revisions to the proposals."
