A COMMUNITY group is continuing its service of donating to local charities with a Christmas event.

Knit 'n' Natter, a group based in Newton-le-Willows, annually hosts a festive coffee morning to collect donations for charities, with this year’s donations going towards Dementia UK.

The group meet every week at Newton library where it holds a raffle which has raised £400 this year.

With previous fundings, the group has donated gift bags to the Salvation Army and hampers for the community.

The group aims to continue its wholesome tradition with a Christmas coffee morning taking place tomorrow.

Rita Jones, the group’s co-ordinator, said: "It’s just a lovely group and we get on well together.

"We’ve been able to buy material to do some knitting for Warrington Hospital, and every year we decide on which charity we want to approach.

"Last year we made £500 for motor-neurone and this year we’re doing dementia.

"We’ve done a lot of work with making items for the Christmas sale as well."

The group was revisited in 2018 and now has 16-20 members attending the weekly sessions.

Knit 'n' Natter has also introduced local artist Deb Mercer to the group, who has produced the illustrations at the Newton library for occasions including Heritage Week and Remembrance Day.

Tombola prizes and homemade gifts will be available to purchase, with all proceeds to go to Dementia UK.

Newton-le-Willows West Ward councillors, Terry Maguire and Karl Collier, will both be attending the event to open the festive sale.
