Man to be sentenced for causing death of Jack Worwood, 13

Liam Wilson, of Livingstone Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield, appeared before Bolton Crown Court this morning.

At around 4.30pm on Tuesday, July 7, police were called to reports of a collision between a Jaguar car and a 13-year-old boy on Old Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield.

Jack, from Newton-le-Willows, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died the next day.

Wilson was charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

Jack had recently moved to Byrchall High School, after previously attending Hope Academy in Newton-le-Willows.

On the day of the fatal collision he had left his house 15 minutes before he was hit. He was on his way to play football with his friends when the tragedy happened.

The car then ploughed into a garden wall.

Wilson pleaded guilty last month at the court to causing the death of Jack by dangerous driving.

The 21-year-old will appear back before the court for sentence today.

Wilson has been remanded into custody until today's hearing.

Jack's dad Andrew Worwood, paid a heartbreaking tribute to his son on Facebook after the tragedy.

He wrote: "Rest in peace my little man, you didn't deserve this.

"I'm so, so, so, so sorry, love you always and forever Jack, fly with the angels. You will forever be a part of me and I will never ever forget you."
