POLICE have charged a man with obstructing a police officer after a suspect was detained in St Helens town centre.
Onlookers reported seeing officers detain a man on Westfield Street on Wednesday afternoon (August 12).
Police arrested a man initially on suspicion of robbery and assaulting a police officer.
Officers say they have since charged a 32-year-old man with obstructing a police officer.

Lee James Andrews, of Parbold Avenue, Blackbrook has been charged with the offence.
Andrews will appear in court on Friday, August 21.
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We have charged Lee James Andrews, 32, of Parbold Avenue, St Helens with obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of duty.
"He will appear in court on August 21."
