A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman has been released under investigation, police have said.
A sexual assault was reported to have taken place just before 8am on Wednesday, May 29, near to Salisbury Street, St Helens.

A man was later found by police on Peasley Cross Road, where he was arrested on suspicion of rape and of grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to custody for questioning by police.
A police spokeswoman today said the arrested man has since been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
Police have been carrying out investigations at the scene and a cordon was in place on Wednesday at Vera Page park.
