I READ a lot of criticism in these pages of drivers, for bad driving or dodgy parking.

But I think it’s about time we put some of the cyclists in this town under the spotlight (although I’m probably being unjust to proper cyclists with that word).

There have been numerous occasions where I’ve spotted people riding around on bikes who do not seem the slightest bit concerned about their own safety.

One day last week I saw a lad riding along Duke Street - one hand on the handlebars, the other holding his mobile phone and trying to scroll through the screen.

His eyes were certainly not on the road.
