ANYONE walking or even driving around can’t help but notice the shocking state of our local roads.

A recent article published in the Star hailed the road resurfacing scheme in some parts of the town as a massive success.

Well, not where I live!

The roads are breaking up all over the place with potholes appearing almost overnight, surfaces disintegrating, road signage lying on the ground for months unrepaired.

I seem to remember that the council received a pot of money for pothole repair; what happened to that?

I am writing this because on my walk for a paper on a Saturday morning I have noticed these things appear in the road and just gradually get worse and worse.

A stretch of the inside lane approaching the Eccleston Arms has been progressively disintegrating but it has been “repaired” now, and I use the word “repaired” in the loosest possible sense.

To describe it as a repair would be a joke! It must be the worst job of filling a pot hole I’ve ever seen.

The affected area has just had tarmac plonked in it and flattened down.

There is no sealing of the edges to prevent water ingress, which I understand is best practice and the proper and preferred way to repair a pothole or area of road, and the result will be that it won’t be long before all the tarmac breaks up again and the pothole reappears in all its glory.
