ON Monday, April 11 my mum, who is 89, received a phone call from a very well spoken man who said he was a police officer.
He quoted his name, badge number and said he was from Hammersmith Police Station.
He continued with the story that he had her nephew in custody on charges of shoplifting but they were more concerned for my mother as he was her primary carer (this is not true).
My mum is now all confused as she kept telling us that the man she was speaking to was lovely. When I told her it was what I believed to be a scam she couldn’t believe it.
Fortunately for us my mum has no bank details but someone else who receives this call might.
I have contacted St Helens police and also Hammersmith police. It was a scam – I just don’t want anyone to fall foul of this.
