I VISITED St Helens on Saturday, April 9 and parked in the Hardshaw Centre.

We parked (eventually) – paid and displayed - then on entering the building discovered the small A4 signs on the lift telling us they were out of order.

Now, surely it would have made more sense, or been more thoughtful, to put the signage on display in the car park area itself?

Or better still, a large three ft by two ft sign at the entrance to the car park? Too easy?

My wife, who is disabled, and I (I’m not too good with bad knees) were forced, along with other obviously disabled people that we encountered, to struggle down the three or four flights of stairs. And back again.

So... Hardshaw Centre:

Nil points: for finding it much too difficult to put important information signs in the appropriate place.

Nil points: for having no workable/fit-for-purpose disabled person/customer policy.

Nil points: for having zero staff in situ to help or advise.

Nil points: for zero visibility of management.

There was a small sign saying ‘disabled access via Claughton St’. Again, no use as... where is Claughton St?

I bet many of your readers, like me, don’t know.
