WITH regard to the recent letter ‘A disgusting sight’ – name and address submitted.
I am a regular visitor to your area and agree totally.
What doesn’t help is the proliferation of fast food outlets throughout the town.
They all need an environmental levy charged upon them to pay for the clean up of rubbish originating from their outlets.
There is legislation available for the council to clean up the town – Environmental Protection Act and Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act to name a few.
The council needs to start flexing its muscles as it is a litter authority and can impose fines on land owners who refuse to clean up their land.
The letter mentioned ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaigns – the next one is: ‘One bag - BIG difference’ running from March 25 to April 10.
Check their website.
When I return again to your area, I hope to see a marked difference!
