I READ with the interest the letter suggesting a box park style leisure and retail venue on the flattened site of the former Chalon Way multi-storey car park.
It got me thinking about St Mary’s Market and its grand glass fronted entrance that seems to be some kind of white elephant.
Has consideration ever been given to repurposing the market into one of these food and drink concepts that seem very fashionable in other towns and cities.
Everytime I walk by that structure I always think “what a waste”.
If I’m right, the council own that building following the purchase of the shopping centre several years back. I wonder what the plans are for it?
Why not lease it out to someone from the private sector?
