IN response to the calls for Violet’s Law in last week’s Star.
Too right, I say. Only last week it was on the news about how a man who had been banned from driving on three previous occasions subsequently knocked down and killed a small boy.
He was travelling at 55mph in a 20mph zone. He was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving for which the maximum sentence is 14 years – he got six.
Given this man’s record, how bad does it have to be to get the maximum?
So, yes the law needs to change, or at the very least the sentences need to reflect the level of the crime.
