A LETTER in last week’s Star arguing that Brexit, by limiting immigration improves younger people’s job prospects, ignores the reality that most immigrants are not EU citizens so Brexit will not affect them.

Brexit will end Britain’s ability to return illegal non EU migrants to EU countries through which they transited en route to Britain.

Home Secretary Javid has confirmed to parliament that the 1951 UN Geneva convention remains in force.

This gives people the automatic right to seek asylum “in the country of their choice”, not the nearest safe country as many people in Britain mistakenly think.

The EU’s Dublin convention requires this right to be exercised in the first EU country the migrant reaches but this will no longer include Britain. After all, Brexit means Brexit.

So Brexit will be a great business opportunity for people smugglers especially with arch-Brexiteer and transport minister Grayling, fresh from his triumphs with the railways, opening new ferry routes to mitigate the expected chaos at Dover.

More routes, inevitably without serious border security infrastructure and zero possibility of returning people.

Not exactly “taking back control” though!

However, British people’s rights to live and work elsewhere in Europe will be severely restricted.

Finally, if, as the letter writer suggests, younger people need Brexit.
Why not give them a say, especially those who have reached voting age since 2016?
