WE live in a Band D property and were fortunate to purchase the house when homes were more affordable in proportion to the wages earned.

We have small occupational pensions and my wife now has to wait six years for her state pension.

The council tax is more than10 per cent of our monthly income and we paid an additional precept for the police in April this year.

Clearly this precept is coming on stream again next April.

We live in a decent area and for the past 20 years have been subject to local young adults targeting out properties and garages both brazenly and at random.

They take kitchen windows out – including patio doors in broad daylight – and specialise in stealing expensive bikes, using bolt cutters and metal cutting gear.

The police have no presence in the opinion of most of the residents.
Where is the priority of resources in a key area of keeping people safe?

I rang 101 and there was no answer for 30 minutes. I filled in a form online.

Why are we paying for increasing community charges for a nil service?

I believe the people responsible are local so it isn’t rocket science.
Please don’t blame police cutbacks, this is a long term issue and requires real genuine commitment to effect real change.
