I WENT along to the town centre with my family on Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by how busy it was and the good atmosphere.

You see a lot written about St Helens town centre (much of it negative on social media) and I accept that it isn’t what it was.

We’d all like a wider selection of shops, but times have changed.

St Helens isn’t the only place to have been affected.

But I do wonder if any of those who write their remarks do actually come shopping in St Helens?

Hundreds of people still work in these shops and businesses.

There are dozens of other small businesses too.

And they need our support in the run up to Christmas.

Yes, I’d like to see a little more imagination from the council in the Christmas build up.

Why not create a mini-Christmas market in Church Square?

Neighbouring towns have done it – so why not us?

But overall the atmosphere was good, people appeared to spending and it was a far cry from the picture of misery that the moaners try to create.

I’ll be returning before Christmas to do more shopping.
