IF the aim of the three-weekly bin collection is to encourage residents to recycle more, then the answer would be to run a trial where existing brown bins are replaced by ones which are two-thirds capacity.
This would be the equivalent of a three-weekly collection run on the existing two-weekly cycle.
However, any savings made from the three weekly cycle are likely to be spent by additional resources needed to make extra collections for households who are deemed eligible to demand a more frequent service and additional council staff who will give “advice”.
I will not hold my breath to see if the council think about this idea, instead I await the letters regarding smelly bins, fly-tipping, rats etc which will undoubtedly follow the introduction of the three-weekly cycle.
